“Can-cakes, Momma! Can-cakes, Dada” Caleb yells. His hair rises and falls and flops over his ears as he runs room to room. “Can-cakes!”
Saturdays don’t mean much to a 2 year old, except… that means he and his dad are making pancakes.
You know, I can’t remember a Saturday at our house that didn’t involve pancakes. Still in their pjs, Chris and Caleb measure out the ingredients, whip the eggs whites and pour them on a sizzling griddle.
“Hot, Dada,” Caleb warns as Chris pours mounds of batter that spread as they cook.
Caleb has his own jobs as Dad mans the griddle. He unwraps a stick of butter and gets the “parup” (syrup) from the cabinet.
“Mmmmm, can-cakes,” he says taking a big bite. His clothes are speckled with pancake batter and dusted with flour. By the end of breakfast, he will be covered in syrup, too.
Sweet syrup-covered Saturdays. Glad they come every week. Glad I know another one’s coming soon.
This is Daniel’s second Pancake Saturday. 🙂
He’s ready for a taste. 🙂
